Ok people, it is done.
Took me exactly 4 hours 55 minutes to complete with the Edge Pro Professional - NO mechanical devices used - all done manually by hand.
Angle measured before: 26 degrees per side.
Angle after: 20 degree relief per side with 22 degree micro bevel per side.
Relief progression:
Atoma Diamond Plates: 140#/400#/600#/1 200#
Relief Mirror: Shapton Glass Stones: 500#/1k/2k/4k/8k + 1µ diamond spray/16k + 0.5µ diamond spray/30k + 0.25 diamond spray/leather strop + 0.1µ diamond spray.
Cutting Edge (Micro bevel): 15k Shapton Pro Stone - 4 x light strokes per side.
With a precision instrument like the EP, irregularities quickly show on the grindline as either dips or mounds - I am happy to report that this blade presented none, which is extremely rare for a custom maker - well done there.
The heat treat felt very consistent with a slight "hard spot" at the heel, which bodes good, as this is where normally first contact is made when attempting the cut, resulting in a slighter longer lasting edge.
Slight "differential" HT in your favor there Neels.
I am happy with the final result, but for now, my fingers hurt!
Sorry Neels - the EP won, but it was a good battle.
Now I will use it & resharpen before returning it to Guy.
